
Michael S. Dohan PhD, MSc
Michael S. Dohan (PhD, MSc (Management), HBComm (Information Systems), Dipl. B.) obtained his PhD in Business Administration from the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University. Mike regularly conducts a variety of research in digital health. In his dissertation, Mike explored how technology related skills and knowledge among paramedics impacted the ability of a Paramedic Service to innovate. This work has been published in academic journals such as Health Policy and Technology as well as practitioner journals such as Canadian Paramedicine.
He has extensive experience with research projects related to healthcare data analytics. One project utilized an Electronic Patient Care Record (ePCR) dataset based on the iMedic technology to explore areas of call over-prioritization. This project was performed in partnership with Superior North Emergency Medical Services and funded by the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs (OAPC). As IT consultant, Mike is adept at conducting requirements discovery in various contexts. Previously, he was a Systems Analyst and IT Consultant for more than 10 years. Notable projects include an Electronic Medical Record for a small clinic that successfully reduced wait times for patients, as well as a profitable media website.
Other relevant research projects include: developing theoretical models to explain how digital transformation in healthcare creates value for patients and investigating the use of technology-related knowledge and skills in nursing. Mike’s technical skills include Data Management: Modelling, Development, SQL, Data warehouse design and data Visualization: Tableau, Power BI.
